Medford, MA — January 17, 2016–The Level 9 and 10 Junior Olympic (JO) gymnasts from Atlantic Gymnastics Training Center (AGTC) of Portsmouth, New Hampshire recently competed at the Brestyans Invitational held at Tufts University in Medford, MA. Brestyans is best known as the home gym of national Olympians Aly Raisman and Alicia Sarcramone.

After suffering an ankle injury at the first meet of the season, Level 9 Sarah Morin of Portsmouth was only able to compete one of four events–uneven bars. She had a great performance, placing 8th in her age group.

Level 9 Ayla McKean of South Berwick, Maine stuck her beam routine receiving an 8.825 and landing her second vault for a score of 8.85. Meanwhile Eliot teammate and fellow Level 9 competitor Jill York performed a beautiful beam routine, placing 9th in her age group with an 8.95 and then went on to compete a great vault, placing 7th in her age group.

Continuing in the Level 9 meet, Dover’s Sydney Caro showed off her vaulting skills earning a 9.30 and placing 6th in her age group. Meanwhile teammate Camille Sweet of Stratham nailed her vault scoring a 9.025 on the event; she also performed a solid uneven bars routine placing 10th in her age group.

Kirsten Sweetman of Londonderry had a consistent meet and competed all four events for the first time this season after coming off an injury. She earned 11th place for her beautifully executed vault.

Moving to the Level 10 meet, high school senior Annie Christman performed well in her first meet of the season. She placed on three events, with strong performances on vault (9.15) and bars (9.025). Christman has committed to compete for Brown University next year.

The team is coached by Cori Cunningham, Allison Brisson and Matt Yellis. The girls return to practice this week to prepare for their next meet to be held later this month.
