The Atlantic Dover Xcel team travelled to Brattleboro, VT this past weekend to compete in the Hip Hop Classic meet hosted by Woodman Athletics. This meet boasted teams from Vermont, New Hampshire, and Connecticut with girls competing from Friday through Sunday. The Dover Xcel team has been training hard and it sure paid off in Vermont.
The Bronze Xcel team placed 2nd with a team total of 112.25. In the Junior B age group Caitlin Klein placed 3rd on bars. Savanah Hughes took 2nd on vault, 1st on bars, 1st on beam, and 3rd on floor earning her 2nd in the all around. In the Junior C age group Sophia Day took 3rd on floor with a beautiful round-off back handspring. Gabby Harrition nabbed 2nd on vault, 1st on bars, and 2nd on beam with a stuck routine. Gabby also took 3rd on floor and earned 2nd in the all-around. In the Senior A Bronze division Caraboo West took 3rd on bars. Three must have been a lucky number because Renee Remick took 3rd on three events: bars, beam and floor. Sophie Lusenhop grabbed 1st on bars and beam. Sophie also earned 3rd in the all around. Finally in the Senior B age group Riley Bishop took 3rd on bars, 3rd on bars and 3rd in the all-around. Anna Wolusky came in 3rd on vault, 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, 2nd on floor and 2nd in the all around. Sophia Burke claimed 2nd on bars and 1st on vault, beam, floor and the all-around. Sophia also earned a special award for achieving the highest all around during the entire Bronze meet.
Atlantic Dover’s Xcel Silver team put on a fantastic performance. In the Junior A age group, Kailey Holt placed 1st on bars and beam. Kailey also took 3rd on floor and 2nd in the all around. In the Senior A age group, Gracie Gagne claimed 2nd on bars with a strong, clean routine. Kateri True, part of the Senior B age group, took 2nd on beam with a great save on her acro skill. Ari Bonney, also part of the Senior B category, took 1st on bars and 3rd in the all-around. In the Senior C age division, Aaliyah McKenzie and Kayla McGary tied for 2nd place on bars. Kayla also took 1st on floor and 3rd on beam earning her 3rd in the all-around. Annie Beikman took 3rd on vault, 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, and 1st on floor with a great save on her front tuck tumbling pass. Annie also earned 2nd in the all-around. In a rare occurrence, the Dover Atlantic Xcel Silver team tied for 3rd place with the Dover Portsmouth Atlantic Xcel team!
In the Gold Xcel division, the Atlantic girls’ hard work paid off with a 1st place team finish. In the Child age group, it was a clean sweep in the all-around with Natalie Sicard taking 3rd, Cadence Howard placing 2nd, and Anya Marengo coming in 1st. Natalie also took 1st on vault with Anya taking 3rd. On bars, Cadence placed 1st while Anya and Natalie tied for 2nd. All three girls had beautiful beam routines; Cadence claimed 1st with clean acro skills and a solid turn. Anya placed 2nd and Natalie 3rd. Finally, on floor Anya took 1st; Cadence and Natalie tied for 2nd place. In the Junior age division, Gianna Coppola took 1st place on every event and claimed 1st in the all-around. Gianna had her best meet of the season so far and also took home a special award for the highest all-around of the Gold session with a score of 37.15.
Three Dover Atlantic Xcel girls competed in the Platinum level: Sarah Bieniek, Alexa Nelson, and Lily Doody. Sarah, part of the Junior A age group performed well throughout the entire meet and earned a 1st place finish on bars. In the Junior B age division, Lily placed 3rd on vault. On Bars, Alexa took 3rd while Lily placed 2nd. Alexa earned a 1st place finish on beam with a newly changed routine and Lily came in 3rd meeting all of her beam requirements. Floor was a one-two finish with Lily in 1st place and Alexa in 2nd. In the all-around Alexa placed 2nd and Lily 1st. With only three girls competeing in Platinum, each score counted towards the team total. All three girls stayed positive and focused through the entire meet earning a 1st place team finish! Lily also took home the award for the highest all-around of the Platinum session. This was a bittersweet day for Lily and her team as this was her last meet of the season. Lily has been with Atlantic since she was a toddler and has been part of the Xcel team since 2011. She will be missed by her coaches and teammates.
Atlantic Dover Xcel will attend the Tune-Up meet hosted by Phantom Gymnastics over the weekend of April 9th and 10th.
