ATLANTIC JUNIOR OLYMPIC GYMNASTS CROWNED CHAMPIONS
Gymnasts Advance to Regional Championships
KINGSTON NH—April 2016 The Junior Olympic (JO) gymnasts from Atlantic Gymnastics Training Center (AGTC) recently competed at the NH State Championship Meet at Sanborn Regional High School, in Kingston, NH. The hundreds of hours of training and preparation paid off as the JO gymnasts performed well and several will advance to New England Regional Championships to be held later this month. Reporting Levels 5-8 below.
Level 5 JO Team Named State Champions
The Level 5 Team finished a successful season by taking home the first place in the team standings making the team NH Level 5 State Champions. In the individual judging, awards were presented in three different age brackets. In the 9 & 10 year old division, Avery Dinges from New Durham, earned a sixth place finish for both her vault and floor routines, and secured a sixth place spot in the all around as well for her solid performances in all of these events.
Ava Lindsay, from Rye, executed a beautiful beam routine earning second place in this event. She also claimed third place on floor, fourth on bars, and fifth on vault, giving her fourth place state wide ranking the all-around. Teammate Cameron Zadravec from Portsmouth took home the silver in the all around standings; she had her personal best scores on vault and bars this season, earning second place in both of these events and finished fifth on beam and floor.
In the 11 year old division teammates Sinead Dolan from Portsmouth and Zoe Rahn from Greenland both had solid performances. Dolan captured a fourth place medal for an amazing performance on the balance beam, and finished fifth in the all around. Rahn placed third on vault, fourth on bars, fifth on floor and sixth in the all around.
In the 12 and older division, Any Bakin took home fourth place on uneven bars followed closely by teammate Maren Hennessy from Portsmouth who captured a fifth on the event. Julia Hackley from Ossipee executed a solid beam routine earning a 2nd place nod on the event. Meanwhile Isabella Balfour, from Exeter was named NH State Champion on vault with an amazing 1st place vault execution. She continued her hard work with a second place floor routine and sixth place on bars. In the all around scoring, she earned fourth all around.
Level 6 JO Team Captures Fifth in the State
The Level 6 JO Team from Atlantic Captured fifth place in the State in the team standings. Representing AGTC in the 8-10 year-old division was North Hampton’s Madeline Brandt who achieved her personal best, all-around cumulative score of 37.40 placing her third in the state. Her achievement included fourth place completions on both balance beam and uneven bars, a sixth-place floor routine and eighth-place vault.
Leading team AGTC in the 11 year old division was Gabriella Verno of Lee, who placed fourth in the state with a score of 36.575. Her performance included a fourth-place finish on uneven bars, sixth-place on vault, eighth-place on balance beam and tenth-place floor completion. Newmarket’s Amy Benson placed seventh in the state with a score of 36.250. Benson performed a third-place beam routine, seventh-place vault, ninth-place bar and twelfth-place floor routine. Rounding out the division was teammate Grace Jenkins who was named NH State Champion with an impressive, 9.40 vault. She earned tenth in the all-around complimented by ninth-place on balance beam and 12th place on both uneven bars and floor exercise.
The 12 year old performances did not disappoint. Kia Meredith took sixth-place in NH scoring 36.925. She placed fifth on vault, sixth on beam, seventh on bars and 16th on floor. Following closely with a seventh-place division finish was Mia Cheney of Portsmouth. Cheney earned seventh place on vault, eighth place on bars, 13th on beam and 14th place on floor.
In the 13 year-old division Atlantic’s Madison Zadravec was top notch placing fourth in the State with a combined score of 36.70. Her score included second place finishes in vault and bars, a sixth place completion on beam and a 14th place finish on floor. Teammate Lucy Ferrini captured 13th place in the all-around. This included fifth-place vault, tenth-place bars, 12th place beam and 18th on floor performances. Following closely was teammate Grace Schwaegerle of Rye. Her 15th-placement in the State included 11th place on both vault and floor, a 13th place beam routine, and 17th on bars. Completing the division for the age group was Fran Toracinta. Her graceful, yet powerful floor routine excited the audience and kept the team momentum going.
In the 14-year-old age division, Gillian Croteau captured third place in NH with a combined score of 36.650. She was consistent across bars, beam and floor earning third place nods on each event and took fourth on vault with a score of 9.3.
Level 7 JO Team Earns Fourth Place in State
The four-person level 7 team, comprised of Hannah Bradish, Audrey Stuart, Katherine Carter, and Sarah Craft, earned fourth place in the statewide team standings.
Stuart and Carter competed in the 8-12 year old division. Stuart has a successful outing, meeting all her goals and earning ninth on uneven bars and floor exercise with fluid and connected routines. Meanwhile, Carter excelled placing on each of the four events; her combined overall score seeded her fourth overall in the State and earned her one of only seven spots on the coveted Super 7 NH State Team where she will represent the state of NH in New England Regional Championships.
In the 13-15 year old division, Bradish, who was only able to compete on two events, was able to secure a seventh place nod on uneven bars. Teammate Craft had a fantastic meet taking fourth on uneven bars and balance beam and eighth on floor. Her combined score placed her fifth in the state. New this year, Craft was selected as a Level 7 All Star and will have a chance to compete in New England Regional Championships as an individual.
Level 8 JO Team Places Second in the State
In the 15+ year old division, Stratham’s Gabrielle Pitt was named NH State Champion in the all around with a score of 36.825; she was also named NH State champion on balance beam with a score of 9.425. Outing was complimented by sixth place on vault and third place on floor. Meanwhile teammate Brooke McErlain, competing in the 13-14 year old division, took second place in the state with an overall score of 36.450. She was crowned NH State Champion in her division on balance beam with a 9.30. Hard work continued with second place on uneven bars, 12th place on floor and sixth place on vault.
Both Pitt and McErlain were awarded highly desired spots on the Level 8 NH Super 7 NH State team and will be advancing to the New England Regional Championships to represent NH later this month.
Meanwhile, teammates Anya Cunningham, Malia Cryan, and Dominique Chasse all performed well enough to be named to the Level 8 All Stars and will be competing as individuals at New England Regional Championships. In the 15+ year old division, Cryan earned the bronze medal supported by 8th on floor, 5th on uneven bars and fourth on balance beam. Her powerful vault garnered her gold and she was named NH State vaulting champ.
In the 13-14 year old division, Cunningham earned fifth place all around supported by fifth place on floor exercise, fourth place on uneven bars, and vault and 11th on balance beam. Chasse wasn’t far behind with an eighth place nod in the all around scoring with solid showings on each of the individual events; 8th on vault, 9th on uneven bars, tenth on floor and 13th on balance beam.
Matthew Yellis, Cori Cunningham, and Allison Brisson coach the gymnasts. The athletes return to the gym to prepare for New England Regional Championships where the gymnasts will compete against the best of the best from New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont.
