In preparation for the New Hampshire Xcel State meet, the Atlantic Gymnastics Dover team attended the Tune-Up meet over the weekend of April 9th and 10th hosted by Phantom Gymnastics. During this meet the coaches and the gymnasts have the opportunity to speak with the judges in the hopes of perfecting routines before States. Atlantic was well-represented with four different Xcel levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Within each level the gymnasts were divided into equal age groups.
In the Child age group of the Bronze division Gracie Schmidt placed third on beam with a 9.35 and Savanah Hughes took second with a 9.6. Savanah also took second on floor and in the all-around. Kadence Madera scored a 9.6 on bars for a second place finish. Sophia Day, part of the Junior A age group, placed third on bars with a solid, tight routine. In the Junior B division Kaylee Corman claimed first on beam with a stellar routine, earning her a 9.525. Gabby Sasien also performed one of her best routines and took home third place. In the Senior group, Anna Wolusky stayed tight and focused on beam and received third place on the podium.
The Silver Atlantic Dover team has been working hard on perfecting routines and achieving new skills. Delaney Sauers successfully performed her new beam dismount, a front tuck, thoroughly impressing the judges and her coaches. In the Intermediate age group, Maddie Stailey took second on beam with a 9.05. Maddie stayed calm, cool, and collected during her whole routine. Kateri True achieved a personal goal: performing her round-off back handspring on floor for the first time. Jillian Driscoll, part of the Senior age group, has been a consistent competitor all season. This meet was no different, Jillian took home second place in the all around with a 36.9. Also in the Senior division were Annie Beikman and Kayla McGary. Annie took third place on bars and second on floor, incorporating some of her beautiful artistry into her routine. Kayla earned second place on vault with a 9.25.
Atlantic’s Gold team also performed well starting with Anya Marengo on bars. Anya was consistent through her warm-ups and hit all of her requirements for a third place finish with a 9.3. Gianna Coppola, in the Junior A division with Anya, showed off her tip top technique on floor, earning third place. In the Intermediate division, Atlantic had a 1 ,2 ,3 finish on vault. Emma Tobbe took third with a 9.35, Bethany Howard was second with a 9.375 and Tori Downey placed first with a 9.525. Tori has been working extremely hard at practice to perfect her skills and the hard work certainly paid off at this meet. Tori also placed second on bars, first on beam, and third on floor. Bethany earned second place in the all around with Tori finishing first.
In the Platinum level for the Child division, Sarah Bieniek placed second on bars with a 9.15. Megan Hopkins took first on vault with a 9.575, third on beam, first on floor, and second in the all-around. Alexa Nelson, part of the Junior B age group, placed second on bars with a 9.3, and second on beam. Alexa also took third in the all-around.
Atlantic Dover’s Xcel gymnasts continue to train for their State meet in May. Atlantic will compete next at Granite State in Bow, NH during the annual Spring Fling meet.
